Rob Miller

Rob Miller attended the University of Iowa, where: he received a freshman merit scholarship from the Iowa Center for the Arts; won the Irwin Rosheim Prize in clarinet; received first alternate in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition; was a semi-finalist in the Minnesota Orchestra Concerto Competition; and was a participant in the Sarasota Chamber Music Festival.

Rob studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he studied with Thomas Martin of the Boston Symphony for undergraduate and Grammy and Emmy Award winner Richard Stoltzman for graduate school. While in Boston, Rob performed with many groups, including: a two-time membership of the NEC Honors Woodwind Quintet, Boston Philharmonic, Brockton Symphony, Boston Civic Orchestra, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, NEC Honors Orchestra, NEC Chamber Orchestra, NEC Contemporary Ensemble, Lumen Contemporary Ensemble, Alea III Boston University Contemporary Ensemble, Callithumpian Consort, Soria Chamber Players and Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.

Rob has a deep love for contemporary music which led to the John Cage Award for his performance of the Boston premiere of Elliot Carter’s Clarinet Concerto. Rob has premiered many new works for clarinet including performances for the Talloires International New Music Festival in France. Rob graduated with distinction in performance and was a soloist at the graduation concert for the New England Conservatory.

After graduation, Rob was placed on the substitute list with the New World Symphony in Miami conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas. Rob is now an adjunct professor at St. Ambrose University.
