Phyllis Miller

Phyllis Miller has been involved with music since childhood , when she started playing the trumpet in 4th grade. Her love of music and “Band” has evolved into a lifelong journey.

Mrs. Miller teaches private band instrument lessons in the Quad Cities, specializing in trumpet, and has taught over 40 years since college where she received the Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Edinboro State University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys teaching students of all ages from beginning band level through advanced high brass as well as low brass through the intermediate levels.

As a regularly performing musician, Mrs, Miller plays trumpet in various music ensembles including the Quad City Wind Ensemble and the Kix Jazz, horn in a few community bands, and alto (tenor) horn in the Big River Brass Band of which she is a founding member. She is honored to be the personnel director of the BRBB along with her husband, Jerry, who also plays the trumpet and cornet. Together they have grown the BRBB from just a few members in 2005 to over 40 of the area’s finest brass and percussion musicians today.

Phyllis enjoys sharing her love of music with students of all ages. She has been directing bands for some of our local private schools and started the Quad City Home School Private School Band while working for Griggs Music. The QCH/PSB served the Quad City community for over a dozen years helping area students who didn’t have a band to join or wanted an extra group in which to play. They performed concerts on local stages as well as the Festival of Trees. Her students enjoy sharing their musical talents just as their director does!
